November temperatures in Dubai, UAE can range from a day-time high of approximately 27°C to evening lows of 18°C.

Temperatures inside the venues can vary so we recommend that you bring a light jacket or sweater.

Tipping / Gratuities

Tipping in the United Arab Emirates is customary. Most of the people working in the Dubai service industry earn modest salaries and rely on tips to earn a living, so if you receive good service, it is a good idea to show your appreciation by giving at least a 10% tip.

Name Badge

Attendees will be issued a badge at the conference check-in upon presentation of their business card. You are required to wear your conference name badge at all times for access to conference sessions and meal events.

Dress Code

Business casual is recommended for all other program events, including the Awards Dinner on Tuesday evening, November 24th

Conference Protocol

Be cognizant of your conversations both inside and outside of the conference meeting rooms:

  • You don't know who may overhear a conversation in an elevator or as you walk through the hotel. Protecting company assets is critical.
  • Media, analysts, competitors and others may be next to you at any time. It is important to be cautious where you are conducting your business conversations so that you are not overheard.
  • Remember, your conference name badge makes you identifiable to others and you may be questioned. Please use sound judgment in answering questions.

Entry Documents

For entry into Dubai, UAE, your passport must be good for at least 6 months after your departure date.

Holders of many nationalities only require a visa on arrival, other nationalities need to acquire a visa in advance before coming into Dubai.

Calling to/from United States

IMPORTANT – Please check that you have an international calling plan with your current provider to avoid exorbitant cell phone charges. When possible, please use Avaya Softphone/OneX or a service like Skype for free long distance calling.

The country code for the UAE is +971. When calling you must dial your international access number + 971 + area code + phone number.

Currency

The currency of the United Arab Emirates is the UAE Dirham

Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Dubai. Visa and MasterCard are universally accepted and American Express is less widely accepted. Smaller businesses often accept only cash.

ATMs are plentiful in Dubai, and are the easiest source of cash.

Please contact your bank and let them know you will be traveling to Dubai, UAE. Credit or debit cards with suspicious purchases outside of your home country may be seen as suspect, leading to suspension or cancellation of your cards.

Electricity

Domestic supply is 220 volts. Sockets suitable for three-pin 13 amp plugs of British standard design are the norm, however it is a good idea to bring an adapter with you just in case. Adapters can be purchased in local supermarkets. Appliances purchased in the UAE will generally have two-pin plugs attached.
